TALLAHASSEE - Ron Sachs Communications is in the running for an Emmy Award for its production of "The National Hurricane Survival Test." The Suncoast Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has nominated the Ron Sachs Communications production in the Public Affairs Programs category making the firm the only nominee in the Florida Panhandle region.

"The National Hurricane Survival Test" is a 30-minute television special that has aired in every market of every state vulnerable to hurricanes. The program is a component of The National Hurricane Survival Initiative, an ambitious educational campaign, to inform and protect Americans in hurricane-vulnerable states.

"This is a unique and worthwhile production that educates millions of people on lifesaving steps to protect themselves during hurricane season. We are proud of all our public education productions and are extremely happy this production ranks among the best in the Suncoast region," said Ron Sachs, CEO of Ron Sachs Communications. "With such an active hurricane season wrapping up we hope 'The National Hurricane Survival Test' will continue to arm people with the knowledge and skills necessary to stay safe for upcoming hurricane seasons."

To date this year, the National Hurricane Survival Initiative has generated nearly 70 million media impressions, with coverage in USA Today, CNN Headline News, Fox News, MSNBC, the Baltimore Sun, Miami Herald, New York Times, Orlando Sentinel, Palm Beach Post, as well as more than three million website hits. Six time Emmy Award winner Art Carlson, senior producer for Ron Sachs Communications, produced the program.

"Our production team created a unique program both entertaining and educational," Carlson said. "We are proud to have created a project helping to protect millions and save lives."

The National Hurricane Survival Initiative was produced in partnership with Plylox, Salvation Army, CoreMessage, the National Hurricane Center, the National Emergency Management Association and the Florida Division of Emergency Management. An annual poll testing citizens' knowledge of hurricane preparedness generates additional media attention for the program.
